WASHINGTON, D.C. – Nikki Haley spoke with Republican voters in the Virgin Islands on Monday trying to earn their vote in the upcoming Republican presidential caucus on Thursday.
In a virtual chat with Republican voters, Haley made the pitch to them as to why they should vote for her instead of former President Donald Trump. During the call Haley told voters chaos follows Trump. She also told voters she is willing to sit down and listen to them on the growing idea of allowing territories to participate in the general presidential elections. Haley also said filling federal vacancies on the Islands with conservative Republicans is something she would work on if she earned their nomination.
Haley, who is the former Governor of South Carolina, told voters she wants to help secure America’s border, help end the toxic political division in the country and create better work and economic opportunities for all Americans.
“Wouldn’t it be nice if we were patriotic again,” Haley asked USVI Republican voters. “If we didn’t have the division? If we didn’t have the chaos? If we didn’t have the fact that we can’t sit down with people at dinner and talk about politics? Wouldn’t it be nice if we just came back to who we are: neighbors taking care of neighbors. Doing what we need to do to strengthen America.”
Haley lost to Trump in both the Iowa caucus and the New Hampshire primary. Political analysts said if she wins the Virgin Islands it could give her campaign a huge boost heading into the South Carolina primary later this month.
