WASHINGTON, D.C. – While you’re doing your holiday shopping online, the FBI is warning consumers about scammers.
The agency said each year, thousands of people become victims of holiday scams. They’re encouraging shoppers to use good cybersecurity practices like not clicking on any suspicious links or attachments in emails, checking each website’s URL to make sure it’s legitimate and be careful of how you pay online.
According to the Internet Crime Complaint Center’s 2023 report, non-payment and non-delivery scams cost people more than 309-million last year. Credit card fraud accounted for another 173-million in losses.
