Super Typhoon Bavi strengthened overnight as conditions continued to deteriorate across the Mariana Islands.
As of 5 a.m. Monday, Bavi was about 115 miles east of Guam, moving west at 10 mph with maximum sustained winds of 180 mph.
On its current track, the storm is expected to pass directly over Rota around 8 a.m. Monday.
Typhoon-force winds extend up to 60 miles from the center of the storm. Tropical storm-force winds extend as far as 230 miles to the north and 185 miles to the south.
Guam remains in Condition of Readiness 1, and residents are being told to remain indoors.
The closest approach to Guam is expected around mid-morning Monday, with the worst conditions forecast between 8 a.m. and noon.
Guam is expected to see sustained winds of 50 to 80 mph, with gusts up to 100 mph, continuing through late Monday afternoon.
Rainfall totals of 12 to 20 inches remain possible, with flash flooding expected through early Tuesday morning. A Flood Watch remains in effect through late Tuesday night.
Officials are also warning residents to stay out of the water, with life-threatening sea conditions expected to continue through Thursday.
